Eric Caen, Chief Digital Officer

Navigating Digital Challenges

Eric Caen has been the Chief Digital Officer of the CréditAgricole S.A. Group since November 2020. He is responsible for digital strategy, data, artificial intelligence, and digital innovation.

Eric Caen is the co-founder of Titus Interactive video game group (1985-2005). He led Glowria, a specialist in video-on-demand services, and helped McDonald’s (2011-2015), Vimpelcom (2015-2016) and CMA-CGM (2017-2018) accelerate their digital transformations. Self-taught, Eric was named Entrepreneur of the Year France by Ernst & Young in 1998 and created the digital transformation index for French blue-chip (CAC40) companies, published by Forbes in June 2017 and November 2019.

Following is the conversation with Caen.

Could you provide an overview of your role and responsibilities within the company?

Since 2020, I am the Chief Digital Officer of CréditAgricole group, and in charge of some of the IA, Data, design and development, digital technologies, agile, and innovation of the largest financial group in Europe…

What are some of the key challenges you face?

Challenging the routines, proposing concrete solutions that could help drive change forward, making complex technology easy to understand and accepted by the deciders then by users (colleagues & customers)

What would you say are some of the futuristic trends that will have an impact in the next 18-24 months?

Impact of generative AI and how to make sure we go the extra mile to refine the best usages for most people Introduction of new kind of assistant or bots, reaching high level of precision and qualitative interactions

Challenge the routines, propose concrete solutions that could help changing for good, making complex technology easy to understand and accepted by the deciders then by users (colleagues & customers).

What advice would you give to young professionals who are interested in pursuing a similar career, and what qualities do you think are essential for success in this field?

Curiosity! Invest enough time in testing new things (even coding new things), learn how to remain ahead of the curve, and develop a network by providing support each time it is needed.
